At Southwell Community Money Advice, we understand that dealing with debt can be overwhelming. Our services are designed to provide you with clear, practical advice and support, helping you regain control of your finances. We offer totally free and confidential debt advice and support to the residents of Southwell and the surrounding areas.

The steps we will take together

We will walk through several steps to understand:

What money you have coming in
What money you have going out
How much you owe, and to whom
How much you can realistically pay each month towards repaying your debt

With these things in place, we can help you to work out the solution that works best for you. Unlike some other debt-management services, there will never be a charge for what we do. We can negotiate with creditors to agree a payment plan, or look at other solutions to get you debt-free.

We will meet together where your Money Mentor will explain the options and recommend the best solution. Ultimately, what you do is, of course, up to you. Be assured we are in this with you for the long haul.

Budgeting support

Take control of your finances with great budgeting support tools. We can help you understand where your money is going and develop a manageable budget that works for you. Understanding what your money is being spent on helps regain control.

Debt management plans

Our debt management plans offer a structure approach to tackling your debt. We'll work with you to create a plan that suits your circumstances, negotiating with creditors on your behalf. A range of debt management plans can help you get out of debt.

Our approach

We understand that making that first phone call, or walking in the door for the first time is nerve-wracking. You may have been struggling with debt for weeks, months or years. It can feel overwhelming and impossible.

At Southwell Community Money Advice, you can expect a supportive and totally confidential process. We offer a listening ear to understand what debt you are in. We will never make judgements. We understand that people find themselves in debt for many reasons; our sole aim is to help you become free of those debts.

If you decide a debt management plan is the best option, we will contact your creditors and negotiate any reduced payments and help you to set up repayments from your bank or building society account. If you don't have access to an account, we will help you to set up or change accounts to ensure you can make any repayments negotiated.

Southwell Community Money Advice, a service of Riverside Church in Southwell, was inspired by a vision to support the community. We understand the stress, worry and despair that debt can cause.

Our goal is to provide totally free and confidential debt advice and support, helping individuals find a path to becoming debt-free. We support many local and international needs, including Newark Foodbank and Betel addiction recovery and homelessness support.
